Not enough songs are written in 3/4 time; this band is working to correct that problem.

Natural Child is an old-fashioned rock band based in Nashville. They sound like a drunk combination of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and the Allman Brothers, but it somehow works. There’s also some country-sounding stuff in their music, which you’ll hear below.

Apparently, we Americans tend to incorrectly refer to people from the Netherlands as “Dutch”, but they call themselves “Nederlanders”, and tend to prefer that term. Anyway, a wise Dutch guy who goes by the name “Joost” at the music message board Faithless-Street.org recommended these guys. I’ve talked with Joost about music and other random drivel for about 7 years now, and he has great taste in these things.

(“Faithless Street” is a reference to an album by a great, now-defunct alt-country band fronted by Ryan Adams. That’s this American music wunderkind, not this Canadian ponce.)

Natural Child’s newest album, Dancin’ with Wolves, was released at the end of February. You can buy it here. I’d like to think that if there’s an afterlife, Ronnie Van Zant is tapping his foot along to the music, drinking a beer, and nodding approvingly at these guys.
