Here’s an outstanding Jackson Browne cover by an outstanding country-folk band from Yorkville, Illinois.

The Giving Tree Band – Peace on the Mountain
Great stuff, right? Now you’ll probably want to check out an original. Their music is stylistically diverse, but if you put The Grateful Dead and The Band in a blender, then added a little foot-stomping energy of the Avett Bros, that wonderful musical concoction might sound a bit like the GTB.

They released a live cd earlier this year, the appropriately-titled Like a Freight Train. But you might want to consider checking out more of their stuff too.

So Tyler Childers was recently invited to play a set on Mountain Stage and holy lordy, this is 27 minutes of folk-country-americana greatness. Word is starting to spread quickly about this fella, and for very good reason.

Aisha Badru – Young
Ms. Badru is a soulful folkish singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York. She has been featured around here before, and she is currently finishing up her second EP, set for release in March of 2016.

Her first single from that EP is a breezy, beautiful song about love and life. But then again, she has the kind of voice that could sing you the local news headlines and you’d probably be totally ok with it.

Water Liars – Let It Breathe
Here’s an oldie but a goodie from one of Mississippi’s best folkish rockish bands. You might have heard this song recently on a McDonald’s commercial during a football game. (Don’t blame them for licensing it; there’s very little money in music nowadays.)

Their self-titled record from last year is still very good stuff.

C.B. Costello – Inheritance Club
There aren’t too many songs about unemployed upper-class Britain nowadays. But here’s one, and it’s pretty darn clever.

Adult Mom – Survival / Told Ya So
Whimsical, smart, female-led indie pop-rock is always a good thing. Buy Adult Mom’s debut record, Momentary Lapse of Happily, right here.

Viola Beach – Swings & Waterslides
Contagious and danceable Brit-rock here from London upstarts who are bound to make the radio rounds very soon. It’s like party-in-a-can… in song form.

Fauxgrass – The Worrying King
