Moses Sumney is a bluesy, soulful singer-songwriter from Southern California by way of Ghana.
His songs are either soul-infused folk tunes or folk-infused soul tunes – take your pick. Either way, they’re very good.
“Seeds” has a light, airy, ethereal feel to it — finger-picked acoustic guitar over a drifting falsetto vocal — the kind of song you’ll listen to four times without realizing it. The second song is equally good.
According to the internet, Mr. Sumney is “steadily working on his debut album”. In the meantime, you can check out a handful of songs he’s released by clicking here.
And now, perhaps the most nerdy way to describe an artist… Band Math!
(Bon Iver + D’Angelo) + an occasional looping system X the spirit of Jeff Buckley = Moses Sumney
RIYL: Raphael Saadiq, all those artists mentioned above, good music, wings, plastic
