“Too Busy Thinkin’ Bout My Baby” was written by a team of Motown songwriters, then recorded by The Temptations in 1965. Marvin Gaye covered it a year later, and the song became a hit.
Stevie Wonder’s “Hey Love” was originally written in 1966. De La Soul covered/remixed it 25 years later in 1991 under the name “Talkin Bout Hey Love”.
Fast forward about 25 more years, when two DJ’s play a show together, and somehow end up discussing their mutual adoration of Stevie Wonder’s “Hey Love”. That leads to a discussion about why Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder never collaborated on anything, seeing that they both recorded for Motown at the same time and were fans of one another.
Technology being what it is today, they decided to fix this little musical missed connection. After some hard work and clever editing, the end result is the impressive Frankenstein of a song you’ll hear below.
