Old-Timer Tuesday
Most of the music posted here is new or newish. However, as a nod to the elders, Tuesdays are reserved strictly for music that was written and/or recorded before the year 2000.
1939
“You Are My Sunshine” was written in 1939 by Paul Rice and Oliver Hood of the Rice Brothers Gang. Jimmie Davis, a classic country/gospel singer and two-time Mayor of Louisiana, bought the song from the Rice Bros in 1940 and promptly registered himself as the writer of it.
Not cool, Jimmie Davis. Not cool at all.
Two versions of the song are below. Happy listening.
RIYL: Gene Autry, Ray Charles, children’s songs that probably have no business being children’s songs, good music
