On this week’s roundup…

Leif Vollebekk – All Night Sedans
Mr. Vollebekk’s new record, Twin Solitude, is bluesy, soulful, peaceful, forlorn yet confident, and just overall incredible.
You need this record in your life, man.
———
Pokey LaFarge – Riot in the Streets
Pokey LaFarge continues his one-man mission to prove that yes, in fact, they do still make music like they used to. And that music can be very good.
Manic Revelations is due out 5/19.
RIYL: doo-wop, Richie Valens, good music, Back to the Future

William Matheny & the Strange Constellations – Living Half to Death
Judging by the oxford button-up, the accountant’s glasses, and the smart, smarmy lyrics about hard living and soft drugs, it would be understandable to mistake the song below for a new Hold Steady single.
And coming from someone who considers Boys & Girls in America to be one of the 50 greatest rock albums of all time, that comparison is intended as high praise.
Strange Constellations is out now.

Morgan James – Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel cover)
Four soulful voices, a piano, and some nominal drums.
This works. This works every time.
———
alt-J – 3WW
Britain’s favorite weirdo indie rock trio keep things mellow, catchy, and suitably off-kilter on this new single.
Their third full-length record, Relaxer, is due 6/9.
