Rayland Baxter – Hoot Owl / Yellow Eyes

Nomadic wanderers and wonderers rejoice — Rayland Baxter is going to release a new album this fall. As a refresher, here’s an example of why this guy is pretty great. It’s taken from his excellent first album, which you can practically steal from Amazon for $6.00:

Mr. Baxter’s new album is going to be called Imaginary Man, and is due on August 14th. You can pre-order it here. The first single is called “Yellow Eyes” – check it out below.

It shambles and meanders pleasantly for about 4 minutes. It’s mostly acoustic, with some well-placed slide guitar here and there. The narrator loves his friends and ladies, but can’t help but “leave them lonely” for the call of the open road — kind of like the grandpa in Ricky Bobby, but with less alcoholic irresponsibility and more mystic wisdom.

RIYL: Langhorne Slim, good music, Shovels & Rope, romanticism
