Pokey LaFarge is an old-fashioned folk singer based in St. Louis. He recently released his seventh album, Something in the Water, on Rounder Records.
It incorporates elements of ragtime, blues, and western swing, creating a unique sound that’s equal parts timeless and retro.
The title track from the album is below. As a lyrical bonus, two-thirds of the way through the song, we find out that the object of Mr. LaFarge’s obsession is a Hoosier.
