Ann Peebles – 99 Pounds

Old-Timer Tuesday
Most of the music posted here is new or newish. However, as a nod to the elders, Tuesdays will be reserved strictly for music that was written and/or recorded before the year 2000.

1970

Ann Peebles is an R&B singer from St. Louis. (Go Redbirds.) She recorded ten full-length records from 1969-1992. Unlike many soul singers in the 60s and 70s, Peebles either wrote or co-wrote most of her songs. Her music has been sampled by everyone from Talib Kweli to The Wu Tang Clan.

And in all honesty, if it’s good enough for the Wu, it’s probably good enough for you.

RIYL: old school R&B, brass, sass, good music
