Sturgill Simpson is a country singer. He’s virtually unheard of on the modern “country” music scene, but as you probably already know, modern country music is clogged up at the moment with a bunch of bro-tastic poseurs that Merle Haggard would punch right in the teeth if given the chance.
Compare the video of Simpson and his band below with this five-gallon bucket of country music embarrassment:

Dan DeLuca said it well: “Simpson has the kind of badass baritone that air-brushed beefcake contemporary country stars dream about… Waylon Jennings fans need to investigate [him] immediately.”
Sturgill Simpson’s debut album, High Top Mountain, was released late last year. His second album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, is due out tomorrow.
